NEW NISSAN CONCEPT CARS AT THE TOKYO MOTOR SHOW
Nissan will display three concept cars at next week’s Tokyo Motor Show. The high performance XVL saloon will share the stand with CYPACT, the compact, sporty, eco-friendly coupé, and the AXY lifestyle utility vehicle. Nissan will also be displaying an array of cutting edge technologies, including the Extroid CVT continuously variable transmission and NEO Di direct-injection engines.
Nissan’s eco-friendly powertrain exhibits demonstrate the company’s development concept of “combining environmental friendliness with superior driving pleasure.” Notable examples include the newly developed Extroid CVT for rear wheel-drive vehicles with large engines, the HYPER CVT for 1.0 litre to 1.3 litre cars and the latest NEO Di direct-injection engines.
A special CVT Corner will showcase Nissan’s extensive CVT technologies, for which the company enjoys a significant lead over other manufacturers. The smooth drive, powerful acceleration, remarkably low fuel consumption and other benefits of CVTs will be explained in easy-to-understand formats, using cut-away models, video presentations and panel explanations.
The Nissan stand will also include a Safety Corner, displaying advanced safety technologies based on Nissan’s comprehensive Triple Safety concept. Other areas will feature various reference models, environmental technologies, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and motorsport exhibits.

OVERVIEW OF MAJOR EXHIBITS
XVL
The Nissan XVL concept is a premium saloon, based on a new-generation platform for rear wheel drive vehicles, which has been adopted to provide a roomy, comfortable interior and large boot space. This platform also contributes to improvements in the areas of handling, stability, ride comfort and safety.
The NEO Di VQ30DD direct-injection petrol engine, Extroid CVT and other cutting-edge technologies incorporated in the XVL combine to deliver smooth driving performance with ample power in reserve.
CYPACT
The Nissan CYPACT concept is a compact, sporty, eco-friendly coupé that is designed to minimise environmental impact and which also combines sporty driving performance, with a bold and stylish design. The use of a newly developed NEO Di direct-injection diesel engine completes the super-fuel efficient 3-litre per 100km car concept.
The CYPACT incorporates a wealth of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) technologies, especially multimedia information and communications capabilities, to propose new forms of user-car communication.
AXY
The Nissan AXY concept is a lifestyle utility vehicle designed for comfort and peace of mind. The exterior has been designed to project a sharp, clean image while exuding a friendly look.
The AXY is fitted with a newly developed 2.0 litre NEO Di direct-injection gasoline engine and HYPER CVT to deliver smooth driving performance with ample power in reserve.

MAJOR TECHNOLOGICAL EXHIBITS
Extroid CVT
This completely new type of CVT is the world’s first CVT to be successfully implemented on rear-wheel drive vehicles powered by large engines. Transmission of drive torque and ratio changes are accomplished by pairs of discs and power rollers. This unique CVT provides remarkably fast response, smooth ratio changes and powerful driving performance. Fuel economy is also improved by approximately 10% over conventional automatic transmissions.
HYPER CVT for 1.0 litre and 1.3 litre vehicles
This new CVT unit now brings to 1.0 to 1.3 litre class cars the smooth, powerful driving performance that the HYPER CVT has so far achieved for 2.0 litre class vehicles. This also means that Nissan now offers an extensive CVT line-up with units that can be paired up with engines ranging from 1.0 litre to 3.0 litres.
A torque converter has been adopted for improved acceleration and enhanced driving ease at very low vehicle speeds, such as starting on slopes or parking in a garage. Full electronic control of ratio changes has also been adopted for a further improvement in fuel economy of approximately 10% over the existing N-CVT.
NEO Di Direct-Injection Engines
Newly developed 4.5-litre and 2.0-litre NEO Di direct-injection petrol engines will be exhibited. Also on display will be a newly developed compact NEO Di direct-injection diesel turbo engine.
