CATWALK OR LAUNCH PAD?

Ozwald Boateng’s First UK Catwalk Show launches Nissan Skyline GT-R

On the eve of London Fashion Week, Nissan unveiled its new supercar – the Skyline GT-R – amidst the fanfare and glamour of Ozwald Boateng’s first  London catwalk show.

In front of more than 1,000 people (including Peter Mandelson, Shakira Caine and Marie Helvin), Ozwald Boateng put on a spectacular show of dazzling men’s tailoring and a rare showing of ladies’ suits, as modelled by Wonderbra girl, Caprice Bourret.

Ozwald Boateng made his own dramatic entrance in the limited-edition £50,000 model from Nissan, who decided that the show was a suitable venue to commemorate the UK debut of 100 Skyline GT-Rs – the ultimate driver’s car. Boateng also designed 100 limited edition cufflinks to be presented to the 100 exclusive Skyline GT-R owners.

Ozwald Boateng said, “I am delighted with my association with Nissan and the overwhelming response my recent catwalk show received. The presentation of my latest Spring-Summer collection and the launch of the Skyline GT-R was a seamless and harmonious correlation of style and design which emphasised the intrinsic qualities of this superb car and my original concept of bespoke couture.”

The show was a resounding success – showcasing the very best of modern men’s tailoring on the day before the start of the exclusively all womenswear London Fashion Week.

Nissan, already one of the top investors in the British car industry, decided to invest in British fashion as a bold alternative to advertising the Skyline GT-R.

Nissan’s marketing director, Brian Carolin, says, “The Nissan Skyline GT-R is the ultimate in understated supercars. Subtly-contoured, yet stylish in design, the Skyline GT-R is a state-of-the-art performance car under the skin. The link with Ozwald Boateng’s beautifully crafted suits is an obvious one, and we are delighted to have been involved in this joint venture with him.”

The Skyline GT-R from Nissan, is the world’s only production car to have lapped Germany’s famous Nürburgring circuit in under eight minutes. It features the most advanced vehicle control systems available in any road car, with four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering, and is powered by a race-proven 2.6 litre engine with intercooled twin ceramic turbos. Its understated style has proved popular with those who do not want the overtly flash image associated with ‘supercars’ such as Porsche, Lotus and Ferrari.
