NEW PRIMERA MOST SECURE FAMILY CAR
The New Nissan Primera is the most secure car in the family car class, according to the results of a giant security test carried out by What Car? magazine.
What Car? tested a total of 77 cars in line with Home Office guidelines*. To pass the test, the vehicle’s locking system had to keep a thief from gaining access to the cabin for at least two minutes and the engine immobiliser had to prevent the car from being driven away for a further five minutes. The New Nissan Primera was one of only 10 cars to pass the test. Testers were also looking for factors including visible VIN, marked parts, secure boot and integrated stereo.
“The Primera is the only family car whose locks kept us out of the cabin for the full two minutes,” said one of the What Car? security testers. “Congratulations to the Nissan Primera, which has made a marked improvement since last year.”
Andy Palmer, Director of Vehicle Design and Test at Nissan’s European Technology Centre said: “We are delighted with the result of the What Car? security test for the New Primera. Over the last three years, we have devoted considerable resources towards providing the New Primera with class-leading security. The New Primera benefits from improved security features such as improved Superlocking, the latest NATS V5 immobiliser and Nissan’s advanced anti-hijack system.

“In addition to the new security features, we have also received valuable input from convicted car thieves who give us an insight into street-level car crime techniques,” he added.
The New Nissan Primera goes on sale on 1 September 1999 and will be priced between £14,000 and £21,000.
