FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

17 October 2000

PRICES ANNOUNCED FOR THE MAXIMA QX, NISSAN'S FULLY-EQUIPPED FLAGSHIP SALOON

The new, more roomy and better looking Nissan Maxima QX, which makes its UK debut at the British International Motor Show, will be priced from £20,700 for the 2.0-litre V6 SE when it goes on sale on 17 October 2000. The four model, V6 powered range is topped by the 3.0-litre SE+ priced at £25,900.

Interest in the new Maxima QX is expected to come mainly from business users who want a refined, large car with an all-inclusive list of standard equipment. So Nissan has decided to keep it simple and offer just two trim levels, SE and SE+. One is lavishly equipped, the other exceptionally so.

The following are merely a few of the features that are fitted to the SE:

  • Driver's and front seat passenger airbags

  • Front seat mounted side impact airbags

  • Anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Nissan Brake Assist

  • Front seat active head restraints - to reduce whiplash injuries in the event of an accident

  • Automatic anti-dazzle rear view mirror

  • Three-point seat belts for all five occupants

  • Height and lumbar adjust driver's seat

  • ISOFIX child-seat mounting points

  • Front fog lights

  • External temperature gauge

  • Trip computer

  • Thatcham Category 1 Alarm with remote entry

  • Climate control

  • Six disc CD autochanger

  • Steering wheel audio remote controls

  • Electric front and rear windows

  • Electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors

  • Nine-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels with locking wheel nuts

  • Illuminated driver and passenger vanity mirrors

  • Split-fold rear seat with 'trunk-through' loading facility

  • Interior boot and fuel flap releases

  • Front and rear cupholders

  • Leather steering wheel and gearknob

The SE is offered with the 2.0-litre V6 engine and with either manual or, for an additional £1000, automatic transmission.

Those who want even more specification in their luxury saloon can step up to the SE + which gains:

  • Xenon headlamps with headlamp wash

  • Five-spoke 16" alloy wheels

  • Leather upholstery

  • Electrically adjusted front seats

  • Heated front seats

  • Electric tilt and slide sunroof

Automatic transmission is standard on the SE+ and the 200PS 3.0-litre V6 engine becomes available at this trim grade, too.

The 2.0 V6 SE+ is priced at £23,700, or £2000 more than the 2.0 V6 SE automatic. This addition is substantially less than what other manufacturers would charge for the combined options of xenon headlamps, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, leather upholstery and an electric sunroof.

Nissan's unique BirdviewTM Satellite Navigation system is the only option offered with the 3.0 V6 SE+ and is not available on any other model in the Maxima QX range. Its cost is £1500, rather less than the price other manufacturers charge for a full-colour, voice prompting navigation system.

What aren't listed above are luxury features such as the electrofluorescent instruments that only appear when the ignition is turned on. Not only do they look wonderful, they are also easier to read. Another example of the thought that Nissan puts into its cars is the standard net fitted to the luggage compartment which stops a briefcase, say, from flying around the 520 litre boot. And rather than let the space on the parcel shelf behind the rear seat go to waste, the designers of the Maxima QX have incorporated a lidded box.

"The New Nissan Maxima QX offers customers an impressive driving experience with excellent levels of luxury and refinement at an extremely competitive price. It is important for Nissan to be represented in the Executive car segment and to provide our current D-segment customers with the opportunity to upgrade to a Nissan - this is particularly relevant for fleet customers," said Simon Thomas, Director, Marketing, Nissan Motor (GB) Limited.

Exterior styling

The new Nissan Maxima QX is larger than its predecessor, allowing more room for the driver and passengers, while commanding more road presence with its new elegant design. Featured at the front of the longer, sloping bonnet are the latest generation xenon gas discharge headlamps that illuminate up to two and a half times more of the road than standard bulbs. The new front grille employs the current Nissan face but with the addition of more chrome to recognise the position of the Maxima QX at the top of the brand's range. The rear styling has also been altered to give the car more character with the design of the lights mirroring those at the front.

Interior comfort

Inside, the emphasis is on comfort, luxury and practicality - with a view, in particular, to easing the stress of long motorway journeys. The larger exterior dimensions allow a significant increase in both front and rear legroom, and also headroom for the driver. Rear visibility has been improved with the addition of an automatic anti-dazzle function on the rear view mirror.

Engines

The Maxima QX line up has been extended to include a 2.0-litre V6 manual version alongside the 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre V6 automatic models.

The all-alloy VQ engine in the Maxima QX has been voted into its '10 Best Engines' award every year since 1994 by the independent US motoring journal "Wards Auto World".

The VQ engine provides class-leading standards of refinement, response and performance. The revised 3.0-litre engine now boasts more power and torque. Refining both the air intake system and the camshafts' operation led to a power rise from 193PS to 200PS at 6,400rpm. Torque, which is key for effortless performance, has risen from 255Nm at 4,000rpm to 271Nm at just 3,600rpm. The result is improved driveability with useful performance available at low engine speeds. Power and torque figures for the 2.0 V6 remain unchanged.

Warranty cover

Like all Nissans, the new Maxima QX is covered by Nissan's comprehensive three-year or 60,000 mile mechanical warranty, three-year paint warranty and six-year perforation corrosion protection. Twelve months roadside assistance operated in conjunction with the RAC - is also included.
