PRIMASTAR IS THE MEDIUM VAN OF CHOICE

• Named ‘Best Medium Van’ in the prestigious 2008 Van Fleet World Honours

Nissan naturally considers its Primastar to be one of the most attractive mid-sized panel van ranges on the market, and now that viewpoint has received a strong, independent endorsement, picking up the Best Medium Van accolade in the 2008 Van Fleet World Honours announced yesterday.

As well as members of the editorial team, the awards judging panel comprised representatives from the fleet and leasing industries, including industry expert George Emmerson, who has managed fleets at IBM, NHBC and Black Horse Agencies.

Commenting on the decision, John Kendall, editor of Van Fleet World, explained that: “Progressive development of the range since its launch, along with a broad range of body styles, payloads and load capacities have provided customers with a wide variety of choice.

“Inside, drivers are well catered for, storage space is plentiful, and the driving position is still one of the best. It is also good to drive with quiet engines and a fine balance of ride and handling either empty, or loaded to full gross weight.

“And,” he added, “most models are built in the GM Luton plant, which is good news for British motor manufacturing.”

The Van Fleet World award follows recent upgrades to the Primastar range with fresh new looks, even more convenience features, and most significantly a range of engines that not only enhance driveability, but are Euro 4 compliant too.

A broad range of body styles – short and long wheelbases and low and high roofs – means customers have a choice of payloads ranging from 1045 to 1263 kg and capacities from 5.02 to 8.36 cu.m.

Under the bonnet there is a choice of a superb 2.0 litre dCi turbocharged common rail unit developed with Alliance partner Renault in either 90 PS or 115 PS outputs, or a highly responsive 150 PS 2.5-litre dCi unit available on the long wheelbase model.

In place of the standard 6-speed manual gearbox, 115 and 150 PS models can be equipped with the optional semi-automated version of the same transmission which can reduce fuel consumption still further and makes light work of stop/start operations.

Primastar is also available as part of Nissan’s Good-To-Go ‘off the peg’ range, as a crew van or as either a chiller or freezer conversion.

Primastar panel van prices start from £13,975 (basic delivered, excl VAT) for the 90 hp 2.0 dCi short wheelbase, low roof model.
