UK DEBUT FOR NISSAN CONCEPT CARS
AT BRITISH INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW 2000
The British International Motor Show marks the UK debut of two concept models from Nissan - Fusion and X‑TRAIL. These significant new models give an indication of the styling direction that Nissan products will take in the future.
Fusion, a four-door mid-size saloon concept, has an innovative style, which combines European taste with Japanese roots. Its monosilhouette shape smoothly encompasses the bonnet, cabin and boot. From the side, a sense of tension is achieved along the length of the body through the subtle sculpturing of the main panels and the stretching of the bonnet and boot.
Inside, the instrument panel and facia provide another insight into Fusion’s elegant blend of classical and forward-looking thinking. Reflecting Nissan sporting heritage, all the dials in the softly illuminated instrument binnacle are analogue units. In the centre, a screen shows vehicle status, entertainment and navigation system, which is controlled by a console-mounted ‘mouse’. Adding to the quality feel inside, the seats are upholstered in Connolly leather.
Nissan’s other concept model making its UK debut at the Birmingham Motor Show is X‑TRAIL, a compact 4x4-concept model.

The Nissan X‑TRAIL is a showcase for Nissan’s advanced technology, debuting a class-leading 4x4 system, safety features including ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) with traction control and a new 2.0-litre petrol engine in a compact body designed for exceptional on-road refinement. Inside the X‑TRAIL, the look is modern and refreshing. To underline the youthful style, textured durable materials are used together with formed aluminium for detailed features.
Supporting the Fusion and X‑TRAIL on the Nissan stand will be a host of new and revised models introduced during 2000. Also making its UK debut is the new Maxima QX, Nissan’s flagship luxury saloon, which goes on sale in the UK on 17 October. Available with a choice of award-winning V6 engines, the new Maxima QX is designed to offer an impressive driving experience with excellent levels of comfort and refinement.
The new Almera and Almera Tino models, which launched Nissan’s ‘super utility’ concept, will line up alongside the popular Micra supermini and the Primera which are built at Nissan’s flagship plant in Sunderland.
Completing the line-up on the Nissan stand will be the stunning R34 Skyline GT‑R sports coupé, and Nissan’s popular 4x4 models, the Terrano II and Patrol GR which features a new, more powerful 3.0-litre direct-injection diesel engine under the bonnet.
