NEW TERRANO II FOR THE YEAR 2000
Nissan’s latest generation Terrano II 4WD benefits from a fresh new look, added safety and security features and advanced new customer focused-technology. Changes, both external and internal, include a new front grille, stylish new tail light clusters and a redesigned interior. An improved braking system and the use of “anti-hijack” security also add to the appeal of the new Terrano II. It was also the first production car in Europe to introduce water repellent glass technology. The new Nissan Terrano II went on sale on 1 January 2000.
Styling changes made to the Terrano II have given the established off-roader even more presence on the road than the current model by achieving a more purposeful look. Underneath, the separate chassis, high-torque engine options and long-travel suspension continue to deliver the Terrano II’s renowned top-level performance both on and off the road. Inside, the robust Nissan Terrano II is equally stylish with a new interior, redesigned to achieve a high-quality and contemporary environment, featuring a new centre console and centre panel.
“Nissan has over 50 years of experience producing some of the most capable off-road vehicles in the world and the European designed and built Terrano II 4WD is no exception. This vehicle has always appealed to customers who require both off-road performance and on-road style. The enhancements to the new Terrano II go even further to increase its appeal,” said Neil Burrows, Marketing Director, Nissan Motor (GB) Limited.
New Terrano II for the year 2000...2
Key features of the latest generation Nissan Terrano II include:
· Redesigned front grille
· New front bumper for wider and more robust appearance
· New rear styling
· Redesigned interior
· New instruments and integrated centre console
· Revised grade structure
· Water-repellent glass – the first application in Europe
· ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) and larger rear brakes
· Superlocking central locking with anti-hijack system
· Innovative spare wheel cover
· New 16-inch alloy and steel wheels
· On sale 1 January 2000 with prices announced at the end of 1999
Safety and security have been enhanced with braking significantly improved due to the application of Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) in conjunction with ABS. EBD maintains constant maximum pressure to the uprated rear brakes under all braking manoeuvres, shortening braking distances while maintaining stability. Security has been upgraded with the addition of an anti-hijack central locking feature, for added peace of mind.
Nissan’s advanced water repellent technology features in all new Terrano II vehicles. This European “first” works by chemically reducing the water’s surface contact area on the front side windows thereby reducing the water’s adhesion to glass. The result is clearer visibility for the driver in poor weather conditions and a reduction in “icing-up” of vehicle windows in winter.
Three new grades of Terrano II are available, S, SE and SE+, featuring not only different equipment, but also unique colours and trim patterns. Standard equipment includes air conditioning and alloys on the SE grade with CD autochanger and roof rails also added to the range-topping SE+. With three-door and five-door variants, the Terrano II offers a 12-valve

2.4-litre 118PS petrol engine or 125PS 2.7-litre turbo-diesel intercooler, which has the further option of either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. All vehicles feature selectable two or four-wheel drive with high and low ratios available for all conditions.
Since its launch in 1993 more than 200,000 Terrano IIs have been sold in more than 80 countries worldwide - from Africa to South America. In the UK, this popular off-roader saw a 12.4 per cent rise in sales during 1998 with a strong bias towards business users, a trend that continued throughout 1999.

Chassis
The latest generation Terrano II builds on the strengths of the preceding models. Unlike some other 4x4s, which have limited off-road

performance, Terrano II has a strong separate chassis to withstand the torsional forces of off-roading. The front independent suspension, with double wishbones and torsion bars, is balanced at the rear with a live axle located by four trailing arms and a Panhard rod, and controlled by coil springs. New for the 2000 MY models are more sophisticated gas-type shock absorbers, to improve ride comfort and stability, particularly on the road.
This combination of a torsionally stiff chassis and pliant suspension gives a smooth and controlled ride on the road, further refined by anti-roll bars front and rear. When off-road the ride is compliant and flexible, capable of coping comfortably with the toughest terrain.
Combined with the new 16in tyres (235/70 R16 replacing 235/75 R15), the uprated suspension improves stability under all conditions, with a reduction in understeer and a four per cent improvement in maximum lateral acceleration. Not only that, but it allows a three per cent maximum speed increase in the Elk Test. With a two per cent improvement in aquaplaning avoidance during cornering, and six per cent improvement in longitudinal aquaplaning, the latest generation Terrano II gives an improved and safer ride under all conditions - in the wet or dry, snow or ice.
