NEW GENERATION TERRANO II AT THE LONDON MOTOR SHOW

Nissan’s latest Terrano II 4WD, which goes on sale on 1 January 2000, will make its UK debut at the 1999 London Motor Show. The latest generation Terrano II benefits from a new look, added safety and security features and will be the first production car in Europe to introduce water repellent glass technology.

Features of the Terrano II include:

·         Redesigned front grille

·         New front bumper giving a wider, more robust stance

·         New rear styling

·         Redesigned interior including new instrumentation and integrated centre console

·         Water repellent glass – a first in Europe

·         Revised grade structure

·         ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) and larger rear brakes

·         Superlocking central locking with anti-hijack system

·         New 16-inch alloy and steel wheels

·         Innovative spare wheel cover

Exterior styling changes, including a new front grille and new tail light clusters, give the Terrano II a more purposeful stance. Inside, a new centre console and redesigned centre panel give the vehicle a high-quality contemporary feel.

“Nissan’s latest generation Terrano II will be seen by the UK public for the first time at the Earls Court show,” explains Neil Burrows, Director, Marketing, Nissan Motor (GB) Limited.

“Nissan’s European designed and built Terrano II draws on over 50 years’ experience producing some of the most acclaimed off-roaders in the world.  These latest enhancements will ensure the Terrano’s appeal into the next century,” he continued.

The application of Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) in conjunction with ABS has significantly improved braking. EBD works by maintaining constant maximum pressure to the uprated rear brakes under all braking manoeuvres.  Safety is therefore improved as braking distances are shortened and stability is maintained. Security has been upgraded with the addition of an anti-hijack central locking system.

Nissan’s advanced water-repellent technology on the Terrano II is a European first. The technology works by chemically reducing the water’s surface contact area on the front side windows, thereby reducing the water’s adhesion to glass. The result is clearer visibility for the driver.

This latest generation Terrano II will be available in three new grades – S, SE and SE+, featuring different equipment levels and unique colours and trim patterns. Like its predecessor, three-door or five-door variants will be available.  Engine sizes offered are 12-valve 2.4-litre 118PS petrol engine or 125PS 2.7-litre turbo-diesel intercooler, which is available with either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. All variants feature selectable two or four-wheel drive with high and low ratios.

Since its launch in 1993, more than 200,000 Terrano IIs have been sold in more than 80 countries. In the UK, sales increased by 12.4 per cent in 1998 with a strong bias towards the business user – a trend that has continued throughout 1999. Year to date the Terrano II has a 3.1 per cent share of the 4WD market and is the fleet vehicle buyers’ third favourite off-roader.
