UK DEBUT FOR NISSAN X‑TRAIL CONCEPT AT

BRITISH INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW

Nissan’s compact 4x4 concept car will make its UK debut at the British International Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham on 17 October 2000.  Called X‑TRAIL, the new concept combines real off-road ability with first-class on-road handling and performance.

“The X‑TRAIL signals a clear indication of Nissan’s intention to produce a sophisticated new compact 4x4 to appeal to active people with outdoor interests ranging from extreme sports to more leisurely pastimes,” said Brian Carolin, Managing Director, Nissan Motor (GB) Limited.

The new Nissan X‑TRAIL is a showcase for Nissan’s advanced technology, debuting a class-leading 4x4 system, safety features including ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) with traction control and a new 2.0-litre petrol engine in a compact body designed for exceptional on-road refinement.

“The X‑TRAIL concept is Nissan’s answer to the challenge of matching excellent road holding and driving enjoyment with good off-road ability,” said Mr. Tetsuo Shimizu, Chief Product Specialist and project leader of   X‑TRAIL development.

conditions. X‑TRAIL’s system instantly reacts to the driver accelerating by anticipating the possibility of loss of traction ensuring all four wheels provide grip as soon as it is needed.

X‑TRAIL brings Nissan's technology and innovative design into one vision of future compact 4x4 concept.

The imaginative design of the Nissan X‑TRAIL, with its prominent light clusters and trademark Nissan 4x4 grille, communicates integrity and strength.  The front and rear bumpers integrate smoothly with the flared wings while the indicators are incorporated in the main headlamp assemblies, which employ clear lens technology.

The heavily raked front screen offers superior aerodynamic performance and blends into the roof rack system, which is fronted by driving lights, accentuating the off-road practicality.

Inside X‑TRAIL the look is of refreshing, modern materials. To underline the youthful style new types of textured durable materials are used together with formed aluminium for detailed features. Rugged material replaces traditional carpet in the cargo area, allowing the loadspace to be washed clean after exploiting the vehicle’s utility role.  Carrying long wide loads like several snowboards is easy, as the centre armrest is removable to allow the boards to rest between the rear seats.
